Estrade Residence by MU Architecture The architects from Canadian MU Architecture have created a building in total harmony with the natural environment. Estrade Residence stands on the shores of Lac de la Cabane in the Laurentians mountains north of Montreal.

It's always a tough ask to build in the middle of nature because the architect has to find just the right balance between the client's needs and the limits of the site topography. And it all needs to be done in harmonious dialogue with the environment the building fits into.
MU Architecture, located in Montreal and since 2015 with offices in Fort Lauderdale, Florida has always stood out for the elegance with which it addresses these challenges. For example, our readers may remember the Bota Bota Gardens.
For Estrade Residence on Lac de la Cabane in St-Adolphe d'Howard, 100 km a north of Montreal, Quebec, the team from MU Architecture drew their inspiration from the site topography, which is to all intents and purposes an integral part of the project. Here, long walls of stone generate terraces on the site and create a path of discovery, slowing revealing the three volumes of the composition, with a total area of 334 square metres.
Assisted by the choice of materials, like the repurposed stone from the excavation site, and the natural cedar cladding, each of the wings of the house seem to be part of their actual surroundings. A link also underscored by the large windows on the ground floor, visually engaging with the lake. What's more, in this project the minimal - but very comfortable and warm - interiors and the exterior with its pathways that bring together the different zones, have also been designed with the lake and woodlands in mind, extending the space through the views.
MU Architecture with Estrade Residence has crafted an emblematic home for a design that is attentive to the natural environment, where the architectural choices embrace the landscape and keep down visual impact without seeking camouflage.
