genesislectures, Guillermo Vazquez Consuegra Great success for the genesislectures cycle driven by students and professors from the Architectural Engineering course of the Engineering School - University of Pisa. Here is a breakdown of the Guillermo Vazquez Consuegra lecture.

Tony Fretton (UK), Guillermo Vazquez Consuegra (Spain), Ricardo Bak Gordon (Portugal) and Dietmar Eberle (Austria-Switzerland) are the international architects invited to narrate their vision of the architectural project according to the initiative's statement: “The genesis of a design is an intimate and creative process. Thoughts, feelings, experiences and location all play an important role in shaping an idea.”

genesislectures is the name of the cycle of lectures driven by students and professors from the Architectural Engineering course of the Engineering School - University of Pisa. Behind it is the desire to explore the theme of creativity, and also the architectural language that the guests shared through their experience, built up over years of designing and in response to difficult contexts, demanding clients and tight budgets, particularly in the public sector.

The audience was made up of students and industry professionals - thanks to the partnership with the Association of Architects in Tuscany (Federazione degli Architetti PPC Toscani) - working side by side with the academic world, a fact underscored by the decision to hold the conferences in different venues around Pisa.

The wave of creativity is also visible in the collaboration between the organising committee and cartoonist and illustrator Alice Milani. After her visual report of the first conference with Tony Fretton (link) now she shows us her artwork illustrating the meeting with Spanish architect Guillermo Vazquez Consuegra.

Images and words that interweave and interact in a visual narrative that breaks down all barriers in order to incisively share the keywords of the architect from Seville. A mover and shaker whose conference promoted the interventions in historical cities, in order to bring them to life and make them liveable, and not just outdoor museums. A hot topic in Italy right now too, which needs to be handled with the right foothold, as Guillermo Vazquez Consuegra says, because: “architects make the city, not archaeologists”.
