The Playhouse by Pan-Projects, renovation project in Tokyo’s Aoyama fashion district

Japanese architectural studio Pan-Projects curated the renovation of a three-floor building in the heart of Tokyo’s Aoyama fashion district for a famous British fashion brand. The whole project is based on the idea that purchases will in the future increasingly be made via virtual platforms – as the pandemic has confirmed – so that physical locations should be designed not for actual sales, but as places for discovery, research and relationships. The three-floor façade of the Playhouse impresses passers-by with a dramatic big stage curtain that can be positioned in different ways to offer glimpses of the interior, attracting people’s curiosity and performing not only an aesthetic function but flexible reorganisation of spaces.

Cybernet Headquarters

In a tower of central Tokyo has just been completed the renovation of the headquarters of Cybernet Systems Co. Ltd., a world-leading company in manufacturing support using CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering). The author of the interior is Matteo Belfiore, an Italian architect, and researcher who founded his studio, MBA, in the Japanese capital, where he has been practicing for years.

THE TOKYO TOILET, starchitects for public conveniences in Shibuya

THE TOKYO TOILET is an initiative, organized by the non-profit Nippon Foundation, the Shibuya City Government and the Shibuya Tourism Association to provide locals and tourists with clean, safe, attractive and accessible public toilets. They hooked up with 16 big names in architecture and design, including four Pritzker Prize-winners, Shigeru Ban, Toyo Ito, Tadao Ando and Fumihiko Maki.
