Masquespacio, a smile for a dental clinic Masquespacio, the creative consultancy of Ana Hernández and Christophe Penasse, is behind the interiors of a dental clinic near Valencia. A change from their usual focus to which the designers responded with a beautiful smile made of 2884 strips of wood.

Put your hand up if you love going to the dentist. Not many of you did probably, for a number of reasons, not least of which due to the often aseptic and not particularly inviting nature of many dentists' studios. So, revamping the interiors of a new dental clinic becomes a real challenge and Masquespacio was commissioned by the owners of “Somriures”, Spanish for smiles, in L'Alcuidia, 30 km from Valencia.
With great finesse, Ana Hernández and Christophe Penasse rose to this new task and put their talent to the test for the branding and creation of welcoming spaces, bringing together three core elements for the clinic's makeover. They based their idea on the clinic's speciality of delivering beautiful smiles and crafted a large sculpture hanging from the ceiling stretching from the waiting room and reception area along the hallways, made from 2884 strips of wood to recreate a truly eye-catching smile. This branding element starts from the facade and extends throughout the interiors.
A turquoise green and white colour palette dominates the interiors, with pops of gold, brown leather and dark blue from the custom-made furniture, including sofas. They all fit in perfectly with the organic forms of the reception desk and the curved walls with integrated shelves in the waiting area and treatment rooms.
As Ana Hernández, the creative director of Masquespacio says, an unusual and interesting experience for the two designers who needed to create a serious and sophisticated design for the clinic, obviously without using lots of decorative details. Despite reducing everything to basics, with three elements, by skillfully using the sculpture, colour and organic forms, Masquespacio has created a powerful visual message, where patients feel welcomed by a warm embrace and... a smile of 2884 strips of wood.
