Restoration of a cinema in the Bauhaus style and plans for a private home near Budapest offer architect Lajos Kuknyó an opportunity for intellectual confrontation of contemporary architecture.

Budapest, Architema by Lajos Kuknyó The home designed by Architema, the studio of architect Lajos Kuknyó, is located in a semi-rural area 20 km from Budapest.
The site, which slopes slightly to the southeast, offers beautiful views of the Danube.

The intention of integrating it with its natural surroundings resulted in the inclusion of large windows, which also visually lighten the volume of the construction.
The building?s rigorous external geometry is mitigated by the use of natural materials such as wood and leather in the interior.
The project declaredly draws on the contemporary architectural tradition. In the organisation of space and the use of materials, architect Lajos Kuknyó keeps in mind the constructions of Mies van der Rohe and Frank Lloyd Wright. Influences due to the simultaneous planning of the home and restoration of a Bauhaus style cinema dating back to 1938, “the Broadway” in central Budapest.
